Professional Maintenance Engineer
Functions and capabilities that professional engineer becomes qualified to perform:
- Planning and management of preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance.
- Develop maintenance strategies for medium-sized project.
- Training of newly graduated engineers and convey to them information and experiences in the field of operation and maintenance.
- Engineering arbitration and resolving disputes in the field of operation and maintenance.
- Management of operation and maintenance contracts.
- Leading work team or chairing a maintenance workshop.
- Preparation of the maintenance budget.
Requirements and tasks of professional maintenance engineer
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Member of the Institute for a period not less than two years.
- Practice in the field of maintenance not less than five years.
- Possession of 75 qualifying points at least according to Table (1)
- Passing the test questions revolving around the topics listed in Table (2)
- Passing a professional interview with subjects selected from the elements listed in Table (3)
Request to classify a professional maintenance engineer
Applications are submitted at the beginning of each year until the end of February. The following documents should be attached to each application:
- A copy of bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Institute membership proof for a period not less than two years.
- Proof of practicing maintenance profession for a period not less than five years.
- Proof of applicant possession of not less than 75 qualification points.
The Institute examines the application and attachments, the applicant would be notified in writing of acceptance or rejection, and that no later than April, with test and interview scheduled for next International Forum after paying the test fee, which will not exceed $100.

- The duration of professional engineer test is not less than 90 minutes.
- The duration of professional engineer interview is not less than one hour.
- The passing grade in each of the test and interview is not less than 60 points.
Date and place of tests and interviews:
Tests and interviews are held on the sidelines of the International Forum for the operation and maintenance every year or at any place determined by the Secretariat of the Institute.
Maintenance Engineer Consultant
Functions and capabilities that maintenance engineer consultant becomes qualified to perform
- Training of professional maintenance engineers.
- Engineering arbitration and resolving disputes in all areas related to operation and maintenance.
- Providing engineering consulting in the field of operation and maintenance. (Strategies, auditing and reviewing of health measures).
- Taking charge of leading responsibilities in the field of operation and maintenance (heading large-scale project).
- Signing of reports and preparing studies in the field of operation and maintenance.
- Assessing operation and maintenance manuals.
- Capability of overall Facility Management.
- Ability to prepare studies on rehabilitation and extending the life of the facility and preparation of feasibility studies.
Requirements and tasks of maintenance engineer consultant:
- Possession of valid professional engineer degree in maintenance.
- Member of the Institute for a period not less than three years.
- Experience in the field of operation and maintenance after obtaining a professional engineer degree not less than three years.
- Passing a professional interview with subjects selected from the elements listed in Table (4)
- Taking charge of leading responsibility in a big operation and maintenance project for no less than three years.
- Training and supervising the work of a number of professional maintenance engineers.
Request to classify a maintenance engineer consultant:
Applications are submitted at the beginning of each year until the end of February. The following documents should be attached to each application:
- Copy of acquired professional engineer certificate
- Institute membership proof for a period not less than five years.
- Proof of practicing maintenance profession for a period not less than five years after obtaining professional engineer certificate
- Proof of applicant leading responsibility for a period not less than five years
- List of scientific and research output
The Institute examines the application and attachments, the applicant would be notified in writing of acceptance or rejection, and that no later than April, with test and interview scheduled for next International Forum or as determined by the Secretariat of the Institute.

Exceptional classification
Professional maintenance engineer
- The engineer who has practiced the profession in the field of maintenance for a period not less than ten years and has got distinctive qualifications, experience and outstanding achievements, is entitled to apply at the beginning of each year until the end of February for exceptional classification as professional engineer without being subjected to requirements specified by this Regulation.
- The engineer should attach to the application all documents that prove and emphasize his/her distinctive expertise and outstanding achievements.
- The Board of the Institute examines the application and its annexes through classification committees to ensure the eligibility of the applicant to receive exceptional professional engineer degree. In case of approval of the mentioned application, the applicant would be notified and a date would be scheduled to grant the latter the professional engineer certificate during the next International Forum. "With the right of the Institute to inquire in order to verify the accuracy of the application form" and request for an interview if deemed necessary.
Maintenance Engineer consultant
- The engineer who has practiced the profession in the field of maintenance for a period not less than fifteen years and has got distinctive qualifications, experience and outstanding achievements, is entitled to apply at the beginning of each year until the end of February for exceptional classification as engineer consultant without being subjected to requirements specified by this Regulation.
- The Board of the Institute examines the application and its annexes through classification committees to ensure the eligibility of the applicant to receive exceptional engineer consultant degree. In case of approval of the mentioned application, the applicant would be notified and a date would be scheduled to grant the latter the professional engineer certificate during the next International Forum. "With the right of the Institute to inquire in order to verify the accuracy of the application form" and request for an interview if deemed necessary.
- 8 - 3 The application of the special classification will apply for a period of five years from the date of application of this regulation only, then the classification process should go according to the Regulation
