Prof. Adel Elkordi is currently the president advisor of  Beirut Arab University and a Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Alexandria University in 1977 and 1983 respectively. In 1988, he completed his PhD in Civil Engineering at Alexandria University and Imperial College University of London.

His academic career began in 1977 as a research assistant, in the Structural Engineering Department at Alexandria University. He then took a permanent position as an Associate Professor / Professor in Structural Engineering Department in 1993 and 1998 respectively. In 2005, he became the Executive Manager of the Engineering Center, in 2006, he was the Vice Dean of Engineering for Development and Environment Affairs, and in 2009, and he became the Dean of Engineering, Alexandria University. Between 2009 and 2011, he was the Engineering Consultant of the President, the Chairman of the board of Engineering Center, the Scientific Computing unit and the Production Engineering Unit of Alexandria Universit.

Dr. Elkordi has been the Dean of Engineering, Beirut Arab University since 2012. During that time, he leads the team work at Faculty of Engineering and obtained the international ABET – Engineering Accreditation Commission for nine engineering programs located in two different campuses until 2024 – 2025. In addition, he also obtained another accreditation by the Federation of Arab Engineers for the same nine programs up to 2022.

Continuous improvement has been his main goal over the years. He has a strategy to work on developing the skills of students to be industry ready. He is keen on achieving high level of national and international exposure for the university. In addition to that, he develops engineering programs continuously by updating the curriculum to meet the needs of stakeholders and improving the assessment process. He works on the improvement of various components of the Faculty. In order to enhance the experience of students outside the classroom, he encourages students to join and be part of various activities including the American Society of Civil Engineers and other prestigious institutions.

Professor Elkordi published widely and contributed to the development of the Egyptian Standard and the Egyptian code in the field of construction materials. Areas of research specialism include novel Construction materials, Bio-fibers in concrete, using Municipal Solid
